Disordered Stage Definition

Disordered Stage in art refers to the first sub-stage of Victor Lowenfeld's Stages of Artistic Development, first stage. This is the scribbled stage of a child typically of 2-4 years old. It is the primary sub-stage of the scribble stage that remains the first stage in Artistic Development. The scribble stage is divided into four sub-stages namely, the disordered, longitudinal, circular, and naming stages. Disordered stage consists of uncontrolled markings such as light or dark scribbles depending upon the child’s personality, due to child’s lack of control over motor skills. He believed that these stages will develop the aesthetic and intellectual values in children.
