Dawning Realism Stage Definition

‘Dawning Realism Stage’ refers to the third stage of the various stages of artistic development. It was titled and described by Victor Lowenfeld. This stage normally occurs in children between the ages 9 to 11. Normally, a transition from art as purely symbolic to art as creative outlet occurs during this stage. A peculiarity of this stage is that children mainly focuses on advancing a level of expertise in art or may get frustrated throughout the process. This stage is preceded by schematic stage which occurs between the ages 6 to 9 and succeeded by pseudo realistic stage which occurs between the ages 11 to 13.
