Pyroxilin Definition


Generally, the term Pyroxilin refers to a form of nitrocellulose used in making plastics and water-repellent coatings. Pyroxilin is less highly nitrated and is soluble in ether and alcohol. In the context of art, an industrial paint product called Duco which have been used by artists including David Alfaro Siqueiros (Mexican, 1896-1974) is also known as pyroxilin.
