Parlor Set Definition

Parlor sets were antique Victorian furniture that was used in sitting areas or parlors of Victorian homes. Parlor sets of the mid nineteenth century included long sofas, chairs for men and women, and side chairs.  Sofas were the main or the focal piece of the parlor set. Guests were usually seated on the sofa. Ladies chairs were either armless or came either with a small sloping arm that were not padded and were comparatively small. Chairs designed for men were big in size, had padded arms and high back. Parlor sets came in attractive colors and included wooden carvings.
