Metaphysical Painting refers to the Italian art movement, Pittura Metafisica, which flourished between 1911 and 1920. Giorgio de Chirico and Carlo Carra were the prominent artists of the period. The metaphysical painting had images that are representational, but incongruous. The dream like imagery had unreal lighting. The metaphysical paintings have impossible linear perspectives.
