Hochst Definition

The term Hochst, in the context of antiques, refers to the porcelain wares made by Hochst Porcelain Factory. Johann Christoph Göltz and Johann Felicius Clarus established the factory at Hesse Lander in Germany in 1746. The figurines, dishes and vases made by Hochst were decorated with gold and rich carmine enamels. The business continued till 1796, when the factory shut down due to the French Revolution and the siege and occupation of MainzHochst re-established its factory in Frankfurt in 1947 and continues with its production till date.
