Hobnail Definition

Hobnail refers to a short and heavy headed nail with a blunt head which is used to shield the soles of boots or shoes. Hobnail also refers to a glass decorated with bumps or raised dots. The hobnail pattern is found in the cranberry glass made in 1800s and glass ware made by Fenton Glass Company in 1940s. The hobnail patterns in glass ware include bowls, mugs, baskets and ashtrays.
