Cranberry Glass Definition

Cranberry glass is a transparent reddish glass that was famous in the Victorian era. Cranberry glass crafting was lost and rediscovered by either Johann Kunckel in Potsdam or by the Florentine glassmaker Antonio Neri in Italy in the 17th century. It is believed that, it was first made during late Roman Empire. Cranberry glass was discovered when a bit gold coin tossed into molten glass mixture. It is a red coloured glass used primarily for expensive decorations. The red colour in glass is due to adding of gold salts into molten glass. Because of this red colour, it is also called as ‘Gold Ruby’ glass. Cranberry glass is used to make decorative pieces. We can see attractive tableware and vases made using cranberry glass.
