0115 Colt Model 1861 Rifle-Musket .58 Percussion
Manufacture in 1864, Nickel Steel, original bayonet and mount. US excellent condition. The cosmoline residue on this Colt was placed on it in 1865 when the gun was prepared for long-term storage. Two cases of the guns were buried at an arsenal in Indiana in 1865. In 1936 they were dug up and sold to the public for $15 each. He never fired the gun nor completely cleaned it. What might appear in the photos as rust is actually cosmoline residue from 1865. No rust
