Texture denotes the quality or feel of an object. In a touch one senses if the object is rough, smooth, or soft. Texture can be actual or simulated. Actual texture that is felt through one’s fingers using touch. A person can understand the texture of canvas by touching it. He can also understand the texture of various surfaces in a painting. i.e. If a metal, rock, hair, cloth, feather etc are depicted in a picture, the viewer recognizes if the texture is shiny, velvety, smooth, rough, wet, slimy, abrasive, gooey etc.
