Phonographs Definition

Phonograph is a device that responds to sound waves invented by Thomas Edison in 1877. It record and reproduces sound mechanically. Later, the name changed into gramophones instead on phonographs. The sound waves are recorded and impressed on a surface of rotating cylinder or disc. The surface is similarly rotated so that the stylus traces the groove and recreates the sound so recorded very faintly. It later became a popular musical instrument.
