Patina Definition

A green coloured coating or a film or a layer of greenish brown coloured substance that appears on metals due to age is called patina. The main cause for this discolouration is oxidation. Metals when gets in contact with oxygen and moisture for a long time get oxidised and tend to develop patina on its surface.   Jewelleries with patina is considered as articles with great aesthetic value and significance.
