Kutani Definition

Kutani refers to Japanese porcelain that was started produce in the mid-seventeenth century. They were sometimes marked with Japanese characters for “kutani.” However, most pieces found today are made in the nineteenth century. So, the collectors often use Kutani to refer to colorful pieces ornamented with black, red and gold pictures. These pictures depict warriors, birds and animals.
