Deckle Definition

Deckle is a wooden frame which is used in papermaking which is detachable. This frame is wholly open unlike a mold. This wooden fence is positioned on a cast to hold the slurry made of paper within boundaries by adjusting the shape and size of the sheet. The mold is then plunged into a barrel of paper slurry and the surplus liquid is drained and the deckle is detached. Deckle edge also refers to that rough edged paper used in books.
