Chippendale Definition

The word ‘Chippendale’ in relation to antiques is related to Thomas Chippendale a London based cabinet maker and designer of furniture in the mid-Georgian, Neoclassical, and English Rococo styles. He published a book of his designer furniture in 1754, titled The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director. The designer furniture reflected the latest London fashion at that time. These latest designs were used by cabinet makers outside of London as well.
