Caveat Emptor is a word that warns or notifies a buyer that the object he or she is going to purchase is subject to any defect “AS IS”. In relation to antiques, the term is mainly used in auctions that involve prospective buyers. It is a Latin axiom meaning, let the buyer beware. The term reminds purchasers of the risks involved in purchasing antique goods that has no guarantee or reliability.
