Carder Definition

In the context of antiques, 'Carder' is seen used in relation to Aurene and Steuben glass works made by glass designer Frederick Carder in the 20th century. Carder glasses are iridescent velvety glass. They are found in vibrant colors such as gold, green, red, and blue. These glasses often bear the Aurene or Steuben marks. Aurene glass may have a feathered or swirled design. Carder glasses that are engraved "F. Carder" are rare pieces.
