Buddhist Art Definition

The art practises influenced by Buddhism is termed as Buddhist art. Buddhist art include drawings depicting Buddha, statutes, stupas and mandala drawings. The early depictions of Buddha shows a pair of foot prints or empty seat. Later human image of Buddha became popular. The sculptures belonging to Sunga age (2nd - 1st B.C.) are considered to be prominent Buddhist art expressions. The Bharhut stupa and Sanchi stupa are examples of Buddhist sculpture. The Gandhara art depicting Buddha in Graeco-Roman style is another feature of Buddhist art.
