Amyl Acetate Definition

The term Amyl Acetate refers to an organic compound which is derived from alcohol. Amyl acetate smells similar to bananas and apples and is used as a flavoring agent. Because of its banana scent it is often referred to as banana oil. In the context of art, it is used as a paint and lacquer solvent. It is also used as a solvent for some synthetic resins and in the preparation of penicillin.
