Abingdon Pottery Definition

The term Abingdon Pottery refers to a pottery which was started in 1908 by Raymond E. Bidwell in the name Abingdon Sanitary Manufacturing Company.  Abingdon Pottery made art pottery from 1934-1950. Abingdon Pottery was well known for its plumbing fixtures and its use of dense, white vitreous china. The industrial strength clay used in making Abingdon pottery wares made this pottery resistant to chipping or breakage.
