Ziggurat Definition

Ziggurat is a form of rectangular terraced pyramid with successive receding stories. The ziggurat is a part of a temple of Assyrians, Sumerians, Elamites, Akkadians, and Babylonians in Mesopotamia. The purpose of Ziggurat is to get nearer to the heavens and to provide access from the ground to the heavens via steps.
