Volkmar Definition

Volkmar refers to the pottery made by Charles Volkmar between 1879 and 1911 in New York. He was employed in Durant Kilns of Bedford to oversee the production. He brought the business and Volkmar was used as a mark after 1930. The Volkmar designs resemble oil paintings in pottery. He is credited to be the first person in US to use underglaze slip painting.
