Times The Money Definition

‘Times The Money’ is a term used in antique auctions. In an antique auction, when the auctioneer announces that multiple items is ‘times the money’ it means the winning bidder has to take all items at the winning bid price multiplied by the number of items. Here, the bid price is per item, and the same bid price applies to each item brought to the floor and offered for sale.
Therefore, if there are 10 vases and you win the bid for one of them at $150, you have to buy all the 10 vases at $150 each. The total price you have to pay is $150*10 = $1500 plus applicable sales tax and buyer’s premium. You cannot just buy one vase at $150 and leave the others on a ‘times the money’ bid.
