Tensile Strength Definition

Tensile strength is the maximum pressure a material can endure when stretched or pulled before it breaks or tears. Tensile Strength is also known as Ultimate tensile strength.
The elastic behavior of alloys, composite materials, ceramics, plastics, and wood are measured using tensile strength. It is measured as force per unit area.  International System of Units (SI) and United States customary unit follows different units. SI  follows the unit is the pascal (Pa) or its multiples. While United States customary unit is pounds per square inch or kilo-pounds per square inch.
