Singerie means 'monkey trick'. The term refers to a design were monkeys are depicted wearing human attires and aping human beings. This humorous depiction originated in the 16th century Flemish paintings. Pieter van der Borcht, Flemish engraver introduced Singerie in a series of prints in 1575. The term is closely associated with French Rococo.
