Pilaster Definition

Pilaster in architecture means a plane, rectangular pillar channelled with a base and is set on the wall as an ornamental subject. It can be used to strengthen or ornate the wall. It is a part of classical architecture and appears like a column or a pillar of a building. It has a wall surface from which a plane surface is raised similar to a vertical post with a base and top held with platform and capital respectively.
