Hanging Scroll Definition

Hanging Scroll is a traditional method of displaying Chinese paintings and Calligraphy. The exhibition of artistic works in this method helped in public appreciation and a complete appraisal of the aesthetics by the audience. During Muromachi period, the hanging scrolls became an integral part of Japanese tea ceremony. The hanging scrolls were displayed for a very short period of time and were rotated based on an occasion or season.
