Hair Stuffing Definition

Hair stuffing, in relation to antiques, is related to furniture upholstery. Hair was used as a stuffing materials in antique furniture pieces older than 1950. Horse hair is considered as the best material in antique upholstery as it is seen widely used in many antique chairs until the late early 20th century. Hair stuffing is usually considered as a sign of best quality upholstery of those period. It had a very spring-plastic feel and was also used as a top layer for cheaper stuffing with straw and moss. Hair stuffed furniture was expensive.
