Frottage Definition

Frottage means rubbing a surface with a pencil or any drawing tool to obtain an impression of the surface. It also refers to the impression so obtained. The technique was first used by Max Ernst, a member of the Surrealist movement. A paper is laid on the object like wood, leaves or granular surface and rubbed with pencil, crayon or charcoal to obtain the impression of that object.
