Asuka Definition

Asuka is a period in Japanese art history from 552 – 645. This period denoted the first part of Classical Buddhist art. After the Kofun period (about CE 200 - 500), the Asuka period followed. Thereafter, it was succeeded by the Hakuho or Early Nara Period (645-710).
