WHAT! NOT WHITE? The Victorian Bride

February 14 - May 29, 2016 - This exhibition will feature a unique selection of 19th century wedding dresses and wedding-related accessories drawn from the museum’s collection. The tradition of a white wedding dress is credited to Britain’s Queen Victoria when she chose this color for her marriage to Prince Albert in 1840. Historically the wedding dress was not always white. Dresses of different colors, including practical colors like, blue, brown, black, and gray were the norm.
