Sex Objects: Perspectives on Gender and Sexuality

Held in the Wilbur Room - This exhibition was curated by 40 students in two university classes—anthropology and art history—each group exploring through their respective disciplines how visual and material culture illuminate theoretical models for socially constructed identities of “sex.” Sex Objects examines how everyday and ceremonial art and artifacts cultivate or critique these social constructs, in turn shaping individuals to either to conform to, or rebel against, dominant societal standards.
